Create Your Own Watercolor Patterned Paper┃Inspiration Cards

Happy Tuesday, Friends! Today, I’d love to share with you how I’ve created these messy, yet quite simple “Watercolor Patterns” using a white crayon and liquid watercolors. So, without further ado let’s jump into the step by step on how I made them ↓

To begin with, I started by mixing a warm color combination using; W&N Permanent White Gouache and Bubble Gum, Candy Apple, Clementine, Sunshine from the PFS- Liquid Watercolor Collection set. Therefore, once I’ve gotten achieved the warm hues that I was looking for, I set the watercolors aside and I started to doodling circles over a Strathmore Watercolor Panel using a Crayola Standard White.
NOTE: If you didn’t know about this trick!? Good because…you’re learning something new today, as the wax from the crayon works like the emboss resist technique for water-coloring.

That said, after I was done doodling the circles over the watercolor panel, I water-colored in over them circles, but this time with the hues that I had previously created. This step didn’t take me long however, I waited a few minutes in between layers. So, after I was done watercolor in the card panel, I sprayed the card panel with Sheer Shimmer Spritz-Frost Spray to add shimmer and I set it aside to let it dry. Meanwhile, I ran through the Platinum 6 Die Cutting and Embossing Machine the Leafy Envelope Die to die-cut it out 1X from White cardstock and 1X out of Gold cardstock. Thus, right after I was done die-cutting the envelope, I set it aside and I ran through the die-cutting machine the You die from the Sentiment Suite: You Die to die-cut it out from 3X White cardstock.

Moving on, after I was done creating the die-cutting pieces, I started the assembling for the first card. To do that first, I poked out the positive pieces from the white and gold envelope. Second, I glued with liquid glue the white envelope frame to a large piece of Translucent Vellum. Third, I fussy cut off the edges from the envelope with scissor and I glued down the envelope to the gold envelope frame a bit offset to the right to add a slightly gold shadow. Fourth, I stacked the You die-cutting pieces and I’ve got stamped the You word from the Simply Sentiments: You Stamp Set with WOW! Embossing Ink. Fifth, I heat embossed the stamping with WOW! Metallic Gold Rich. Lastly, after all the steps were complete, I trimmed the edges off from the card panel, which was already dry by then, and I adhered the envelope with liquid glue to it as shown in the image above. Finally, after the envelope was glued to the card panel, I inserted a few die-cut flower shapes from the Floral Ephemera, and I mounted the dimensional You die-cutting word. And, to finish the card off, I adhered the backing of the card panel with also with foam mounting tape to an A2 standard size side folding white card base, and last but certainly not least, I mounted a sentiment which I had previously heat embossed on a piece of white cardstock.
NOTE: The Floral Ephemera die-cut shapes are from My Favorite Story Collection by Pinkfresh Studio.

Although, the second and third example are the same the only difference is the I created vertical lines for one and horizontal lines for the other. With that said, I created the lines using once again the white crayon and a ruler however, if you see closely in the image above the lines aren’t straight as I tried to make the uneven by stopping in different sections and on each of the lines. So therefore, after the lines were created over the watercolor panel, I water-colored in with the same hues as the previous example and I also sprayed shimmer over it for a shimmering look.

As for the focal point first, I ran through the die-cutting machine 2X the Leafy Branch Die to die-cut the branches out of white cardstock. Second, I ran through the die-cutting machine the Lovely die included in the Phrase Builder: Hello Die Set to die-cut it out 1X from gold cardstock and 3X out of white cardstock. Third, I ran through the die-cutting machine and fourth, I ran through the die-cutting machine the large scallop circle from the Essentials: Inverted Stitched Scallop Circles Die Set to die-cut the scallop circle 3X out of white cardstock. Lastly, I was done creating the die-cutting pieces I started the assembling for the card so, I trimmed the edges off from the card panel and I adhered with double-sided tape to an A2 standard size top folding white card base, next I stacked the scallop circles and I glued them with liquid glue to the center of the card, then I glued with liquid glue on the left side of the scallop circle and last but not least, I staked the Lovely die-cutting word and I mounted it in between the branches and the scallop circle as shown in the image above. Finally to finish the card off, I adhered with hot glue a bow over the branches and I’ve got heat emboss a sentiment to complement the Lovely die-cutting word.
NOTE: The Fabric Bows are also part of My Favorite Story Collection.

By looking at the MOM on the last example, you can tell that these cards were created before Mother’s Day LOL. However, I couldn’t share them until today, but I didn’t want to skip it as the pictures were taken by then. With that said for this example I trimmed the edges off from the card panel and I adhered it with double-sided tape to an A2 standard size side folding white card base. Then, I glued with liquid glue a few die-cutting floral which I had previously die-cut out of white cardstock using dies from the Dainty Blossoms Die Set.

So, after I had the white flora die-cutting pieces glued to the card panel, I mounted a white frame which I had created by running through the die-cutting machine one of the dies from the Pretty Frames Die Set. Therefore, to create the letters I ran through the die-cutting machine the dies from the Kelly Alpha-Upper Case Die Set to die-cut each of the letters 3X out of white cardstock. Once, I was done die-cutting the letters I stacked them up and I added a piece of gold cardstock to each of them to make the folk art to stand out. And, right after that I glued each of the letter to the frame to creating that way the MOM sentiment, and I finished the card off by gluing with hot glue a bow on the left top corner and by adding a pop of color with some of the die-cut shape flowers.

After, that I was done with the 3 examples all I’ve got left was to embellish them so, to do that I’ve gotten adhered here and there Enamel Dots and the cards were finish.
