Spellbinders Winter Tales Collection┃Inspiration Cards

Happy Sunday, Friends! On today’s blog, I’d like to share with you a whimsical set of holiday inspiration cards made with a “Winter Scandinavian” look showcasing the latest; Winter Tales Collection by Zsoka Marko for Spellbinders. Which includes: Nordic Ornaments Etched Dies, Folk Song Etched Dies, Magical Deer Etched Dies, Peace & Joy Clear Stamp, Ski Lodge Embossing Folder, and Enchanted Garden Etched Dies. So, without further ado let’s jump right in to the step-by-step for how I made them ↓

Therefore, for the first example, I made a 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 square card using Folk Song Etched Dies. Although this adorable bird design has lots of details on its body and wing on which, you can go creative inlaying different cardstock hues on the die-cutting details for a paper piecing look, I decided to go for a simpler look using my typical white and gold combo with two different pinks and a citrine green hue.

Thus, I went ahead to use the die to cut out the bird’s body from white cardstock and then, I got it glue down over a piece of gold cardstock to add a little metallic accent to the detailed die-cutting parts. Next, I used the die to cut out its wing and the die to cut out the tail pieces from a light pink cardstock. Then, I got the die-cutting pieces glue down over pieces of darker pink cardstock and then, I used a small pair of scissors to fussy cut out the excess pieces of cardstock from the edges of the tail and wing pieces.

Moving on, I went ahead to get the bird assembled and then, I put it off aside. Meanwhile, I went ahead to use the die to cut out some sprigs and the die to cut out the bird’s head piece. Followed by that, I went ahead to add texture to a white card panel using Ski Lodge Embossing Folder. Then, after adding the texture to it, I proceeded to trim off the edges at 4x4 inches and then, I got the backing of the textured card panel adhered with double-side adhesive to a 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 white card base. Lastly, I got the bird assembled and mounted to the card base with dimensional pop-up pieces that I created from paper scraps, adding that way lots of dimension to it. And, to finish the card off, I went ahead to glue down the sprigs underneath the bird and the the card sentiment as well. As for the card sentiment, I used one of the sentiment stamp images included in Peace & Joy Clear Stamp.

Then, for the second example, I used the dies included in Nordic Ornaments Etched Dies to cut out the solid pieces for the large and medium ornaments from gold cardstock and their inlay die-cutting images from the two different pink cardstock. Once, I had that done, I proceeded to layer over the inlay pieces to their bases using skinny pieces of craft foam adhesive to rise a little bit of dimension between both layers. Followed by that, I used the smaller dies included in the set to cut out the smaller die-cutting pieces and then, I got those pieces gluing down to the ornaments.

Next, I used the same embossing folder to add texture to a white card panel and then after adding up the texture to it, I got its backing adhered in a landscaping form to an A2 side folding white card base. Also, I used a piece of the lightest pink glitter craft foam from Pop-Up Die Cutting Glitter Foam Sheets- Peony Pinks to cut out the glittery ornaments caps.

Lastly, after adding the glittery caps to the ornaments, I went ahead to get them mounted over the card base and then, I added a tied bow to them; bows which I had created out pieces of DMC Diamant Metallic Gold Thread. Then, to finish the card off, I went ahead to add the card sentiment and then, I got the ornaments embellished with some of the Fashion Taupe Color Essentials Pearl Dots. By the way for the card sentiment, I used another sentiment stamp image from the same stamp set.

For the last example, I used Magical Deer Etched Dies so, I went ahead to cut out the pieces using the same cardstock hues that I used in the first example.

Next, I went ahead to get the deer assembled and then, I put it off to the side. Meanwhile, I went ahead to texture to an A2 size white card panel using the same embossing folder. However, for this example, I decided to take a step further by adding a touch of inking to the folder to created not only a textured surface but to add a subtle pop of color to the card panel as well.

That being said, after adding the texture and touch of color to the card panel, I went ahead to trim off 1/4 of an inch from each side of it using my paper trimmer and then, I got the backing of the front card panel adhered to an A2 size top folding white card base.

Then, as soon as, I had it adhered to the card base, I went ahead to get the deer mounted with some extra dimensional craft springs that I created from scrap pieces. Next, I added the card sentiment and last but not least to finish the card off, I got the deer embellished with some of the Fashion Taupe Color Essentials Pearl Dots.
