Spellbinders Susan's Garden Favorites┃Floral Inspiration Cards

Happy Monday, Friends! On today’s blog, I’d like to share with you a 3-Dimensional set of “Floral” inspiration cards made with a realistic floral touch showcasing the latest, Susan’s Garden Favorites Collection for Spellbinders which includes: Trillium Etched Dies, Sunflower and Ladybugs Etched Dies, Freesia Etched Dies, and Garden Favorites Sentiments Clear Stamp Set. Along with these beautiful sets, I used Bouquet of Flowers Etched Dies to add the bouquet wrapper paper for one of the cards and Sun Rays Embossing Folder + Plaid Company Embossing Folder to add texture to the front card panels. So, without further ado let’s jump right into the step-by-step on how I made them ↓

Therefore, I started off by lining up over a large piece of white cardstock each die including in Trillium Etched Dies set and then, I went ahead to run them through my Platinum 6 Die Cutting and Embossing Machine to cut from it the petals, leaves and stamens for the flowers. Thus, I repeated this step a few times to get as many piece to create many flowers at once. Having that being said, as soon as I’ve had finished die-cutting each piece, I went ahead to add a touch of green to the center of the white flowers using one of the Mini Ink Blending Brushes along with Leafy Ink by TSM.

Next, after adding the green touch to the center of the flowers, I went ahead to ink up the back and front of the leaves using a combination of Leafy and Citrine inks. Then, I used Sweet Mustard Ink to ink up the stamens and then, I added texture to them by gluing down Stakich Bee Pollen to create a more realistic look. So, after getting the ink up done for all pieces, I went ahead to use Susan's Garden Ultimate Tool Kit to add texture to the petals and leaves and then, as soon as I did that step, I preceded to get the assembling done for the flowers and once I’ve had finished the assembling for them, I’ve gone ahead to put them off to the side so, I could have gone to add texture to an A2 white card panel.

Thus, to add the texture, I used Plaid Company Embossing Folder. Then, after adding the texture to the card panel, I went ahead to cut off 1/4 of an inch from each side of it using my Comfort Paper Trimmer and then, after doing that, I proceeded to get the backing of it adhered with double-sided adhesive to an A2 top folding white card base. Moving on, I went ahead to glue down the flowers as shown in the image above over the front card panel and then, I mounted the card sentiment as well. A card sentiment which, I’ve had previously stamp and gold heat emboss on a piece of white cardstock using one of the sentiments including in Garden Favorites Sentiments Clear Stamp Set. Last but not least, after getting glue down the flowers and the card sentiment mounted over the card, I went ahead to glue down here and there some Crystal Confetti to add an extra pop of shine to the card,

For the second example, not only I added the 3-Dimenional and realistic look to the card but I also decided to add a pop-up effect to it so, same as the previous example, I started off by cutting off from white cardstock the petals and leaves along with the center of the sunflowers using the dies including in Sunflower and Ladybugs Etched Dies. Then, I’ve got them inked up using the detailed brushes along with a combination of Sweet Mustard Ink and Clementine Ink. As for the leaves, I kept it simple using the same hues I used in the previous example however, I added for green than yellow this time. Thus, for the center of the sunflowers, I used brown cardstock but to add the shiny effect, I added a touch of Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen.

By the way, the dies from the set tells you exactly how many times you need to cut out each piece so that way, you will know exactly how many layers you need to create the look for the sunflower. Having that said, I used once again the tools including in Susan's Garden Ultimate Tool Kit to add texture to the petals and leaves. Thus, as soon as I’ve had finished die-cutting, doing the ink up and adding texture to each piece, I went ahead to the flower assembling and then, I put them off to the side to add texture to the front card panel and to create the pop-up effect as well.

To add texture to the card front panel, I used Sun Rays Embossing Folder and then, I added a pop of color using an ink blending brush and Island Ink. Then, to create the pop-up effect, I went ahead to trim down a piece of white cardstock to W 5-1/4” x H 5-1/2” inches. Next, I placed the cardstock piece with the wider end over my Scoring Board and then, I used the standard Teflon bone folder including in Craft Treat Teflon Bone Folder to add some scoring lines at 3/4, 2-1/4, 3.0, 4-1/2 and 5-1/4 inch marks. Next, after adding the scoring lines, I went ahead to fold them over and then, I’ve got the ends adhered with strong double-sided adhesive. Lastly, I went ahead to get the backing of the textured and inked card panel with double-sided adhesive to and A2 size side-folding white card base and then, I adhered the backing of the pop-up element as well edge to edge from the bottom and the sides of the card base.

Moving on, after getting the card panel and pop-up element adhered to the card base, I went ahead to glue down the sunflowers to it (as shown in the image above.) By the way, to add support to the mid sunflower, I forgot to mention that I added an extra piece of cardstock to create a second pop-up effect that piece of white cardstock measured 2-1/4 and I added two scoring line at 3/4 and 1-1/2 then, I folded over the scoring lines and then, I adhered down two parts of it to the pop-up effect leaving one end free from adhesive to support the back of the flower. Having that said, I went ahead to finish the card off by mounting its sentiment with square foam adhesive to add dimension, a sentiment which I had gotten stamped and gold heat emboss using another sentiment from the stamp.

For the last example, I created a bouquet using the dies including in Freesia Etched Dies set. Therefore, I decided to add more than one hue to the bouquet so, I went ahead to cut out the petals, leaves, stamens and stems from white cardstock. Then, I added the pops of color using the mini-ink blending brushes along with Bublegum, Melon Orange and Sweet Mustard inks. As for the stems and leaves I kept it simple by only using Leafy ink, for their stamens I used Sweet Mustard ink and I added the texture once again using bee pollen just like I did for the first example. Also, I added a very subtle pop of color to the buds using Y35, YR16 and R43.

Having that said, I went ahead to use one more time Susan's Garden Ultimate Tool Kit to add texture to the flowers and leaves and then, as soon as I’ve had finished adding the ink blending and texture effect to them, I proceeded to get the floral clusters assembled to create the floral bouquet with then. Thus, to add the bouquet wrapping paper effect, I used translucent vellum and gold cardstock along with the dies including in Bouquet of Flowers Etched Dies.

Lastly, to get the card assembling completed, I went ahead to add texture to an A2 white card panel using an older embossing folder from FSJ. Next, I trim off 1/4 of an inch from each side of it and then, I’ve got adhered its backing with double-sided adhesive to an A2 top folding white card base. Next, I went ahead to use hot glue to glue down the floral bouquet over the left side of the card and then, I mounted the card sentiment as well. A card sentiment which I also had stamped, and gold heat emboss using one of the sentiments including in the stamp set. As a finishing touch, I went ahead to glue down here and there some gold jewels to add an extra pop of sparkle to the card.
